Interview: Zhujiang Steel promotes EAF steel production process - vice general manager

Mao Xinping, vice general manager of Guangzhou Zhujiang Steel Co. Ltd., spoke to Interfax about the potential of the electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking process as well as how the company will continue to try to innovate using scrap steel as feedstock.

"Without a doubt the removal of the VAT tax on scrap steel would be good news for steel mills, but as China's available steel scrap is limited, the Chinese government is unlikely to give way in the foreseeable future," said Mao Xinping.

INTERFAX-CHINA - Many Chinese steel mills consider scrap steel as a complementary option next to iron ore or direct reduced iron, due to its various metallic impurities and higher prices.
